Vanara Tribe

These are some characters I developed as a test for the Vanara tribe. A tribe of intelligent monkeys (Simiasapien) well known in Indian and Chinese mythologies (Hanuman and The Monkey King respectively). Again these were a few pieces i snatched out from my thesis on Mythological Creatures (would see these more as sentient characters rather than creatures though).

ALIENS

I Love experimenting with aliens. And of course its a bit of a challenge for me to get a bit of human emotion into a fictional character which posses very few real world traits..  But here goes..

                                                                Tribal Alien

                                                              Alien Sentinel

Sentient Lichen Prisoner. These guys actually appear green in nature as they posses chlorophyll in their skin. their body is armored by an almost impenetrable exoskeleton. The huge plates on their heads act as panels that use sun light to photosynthesize their food. Which is why they have almost no stomach area.. Just like a leaf when deprived of light in a cell they start to dry up and turn miserably brown..

MYTHOLOGICAL BEAST AND ANATOMY

These ware a few art pieces done for my thesis. They were an exploration of mythological beast from a biological or scientific point of view..

The Qilin- A benevolent unicorn like Chinese, Deer/ Dragon/ Giraffe. Of all the animals the okapi became the base inspiration for this beast.

Suparnas- A tribe of Great Ave's that descended from the great Lord Garuda, The Vahana (vehicle/mount) of Lord Vishnu.

Makara- Was a great sea serpant in Indian mythology that was said to be the Vahana (vehicle/mount) of Varun Dev. It was said to be Chimera of  an elephant, a crocodile, Seal, fish, etc. Basilosaurus a prehistoric whale became the base inspiration for this beast.

Airavata- The lord of all elephants, was another Vahana (mount/ vehicle) of Lord Indra. it was said to be a white elephant with multiple tusks and trunks. Although adding multiple trunks seemed not fitting to the laws of nature, I did add 4 tusk all of which were attached to the upper jaw. This beast was inspired from an elephant- palaeoloxodon namadicus skull displayed at the Indian Museum- Kolkata, the largest land mammal of all time, surpassing the largest indricotheres and up to twice the size of the well-known dinosaur Diplodocus.

The Goenkars

Some More Goenkar Illustrations

 Badkar- An early evening stroll.

Chorizo Vendor- Chorizo are Portuguese sausages, heavily spiced and sun-dried. One of the ways Goans learned to store food for a long periods of time.

Tourist- Goa is not just a popular Indian tourist destination, but is quiet familiar amongst a several European countries as well.

Bebado Buddies- (Bebado, a local Portuguese/ Konkani term used for a drunken)

Animal anatomy studies..

Some old anatomy studies.. I know there might be several errors, but still learning and have a long long way to go  ;)
